Services of a Scribe and Compensatory Time
The services of a scribe (amanuensis) are available to candidates who have a disability and require assistance in manoeuvring the computer for Part-A of the examination. However, the candidate will be required to attempt Part-B themselves without any assistance due to the nature of the questions and expected answers in the form of sketches and drawing. The procedure to avail of the assistance of SCRIBE is described below:
- The candidate should select this option in the online registration form AND upload a valid UDID card and/or copy of the PwD certificate as per the format given in Appendices 5–9 at the time of UCEED 2027 online registration.
- The facility of scribe may be given to candidates with disabilities in the category of blindness, locomotor disability in both arms together and cerebral palsy, if so desired by the candidate, upon submission of a valid UDID card or an additional medical certificate as per the proforma given in Appendix 10.
- In the case of disabilities other than blindness, locomotor disability (affecting both arms together), and cerebral palsy, the facility of a scribe can be availed/requested on submission of a certificate to the effect that the person concerned has a functional limitation to write, caused by the specified disability and, therefore, a scribe is essential to write the examination on his/her behalf. The certificate is to be issued after a due medical examination by the Chief Medical Officer/Civil Surgeon/Medical Superintendent of a Government healthcare institution, as per the proforma given in Appendix 10. Note that the facility of scribe can be utilized by the candidate only for Part-A of the examination. Part-B of the examination has to be done by the candidate herself/himself.
- The eligible candidates will receive compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour for Part A and 20 minutes per hour for Part B. The compensatory time for Part-A cannot be transferred to Part-B and vice versa.
- If a PwD candidate wants to avail compensatory time (20 minutes per hour) and/or request the assistance of a scribe, the request for the same should be mentioned while filling out the registration form. Along with the request, it is necessary to upload the PwD certificate given in Appendix 11.
- The UCEED Office will assess the request along with the supporting document(s) and, if necessary, contact the candidate via email with further instructions.
- The examination centre will make the necessary arrangements to provide a panel of scribes (amanuenses) for eligible PwD candidates. Scribes will be students of Class IX or X. The PwD candidate has to choose a scribe from this panel, typically a day before the examination. Candidates will NOT be allowed to bring their own scribe.
- If it is found that a candidate has used the services of a scribe and/or availed of compensatory time but does NOT possess the extent of disability that warrants the use of a scribe and/or compensatory time, they will be excluded from the process of evaluation, ranking and admission. If the candidate has already been admitted to an institute, their admission will be cancelled.
- If a candidate has availed the services of a scribe and/or compensatory time, their category cannot be changed from PwD to their original birth category during the B.Des. admission process.
